Traditional UV tanning (whether from the sun or tanning beds) exposes your skin to ultraviolet radiation, which can accelerate premature aging (think wrinkles, sun spots, and loss of elasticity) and increase your risk of skin cancer. Even a “base tan” doesn’t protect your skin the way people think it does. Daily SPF is non-negotiable—yes, even when you’re tan.
That’s where sunless tanning comes in.
Spray tans give you that same radiant glow—without the damage. The active ingredient in sunless solutions is DHA (dihydroxyacetone), a sugar-derived compound that reacts with the outermost layer of your skin to create a temporary bronzed effect. It does not penetrate deeper layers or involve UV exposure, making it a safe, skin-conscious alternative when applied properly. Sunless tanning solutions DO NOT protect your skin from UV rays so sunscreen is a daily staple!
